Writing Center Work

As part of my internship at the Center for Writers in 2023, I created posters and handouts to train writing consultants in practices, mindsets, and consultation tools that increase accessibility and improve the consultation experience for students with various backgrounds, with special attention to students with different dis/ability statuses. Each of these handouts had multiple pages, but I included the first page from each resource here to give readers an idea of what more inclusive, accessible writing consultation looks like.

Data Visualization

I value visual aids while teaching and presenting. Each visualization below was created for my Problems to Possibilities research group (2024-2025) using three different data visualization tools: R Studio, Canva, and Flourish. The first visualization on the top left consists three bar charts visualizing students' emotions before, during, and after using AI during the writing process. Each bar includes neurotypical and neurodivergent students' experiences to see if neurodivergence status is related to emotional experiences. The second visualization on the bottom left and the third visualization on the right are both cause and effect charts that show root causes of negative emotions during the writing process and two potential ways to increase positive emotions: either using AI or interventions that teach students how to manage negative feelings during the writing process and come up with alternative ways to increase positive emotions. These charts have almost all of the same information, but the chart on the bottom was able to categorize when in the writing process students experienced the root causes of negative emotions and which root causes impacted neurodivergent students specifically.

Posters

a poster for a qualitative research project on the needs of English Graduate Students at NDSU

I created posters for both academic presentations and sharing events and announcements on social media. The poster to the left uses school colors and the organization logo to visualize a qualitative research paper I wrote in 2022 on meeting student needs through graduate student organizations. The poster below is a groovy-inspired Instagram post with complementary school colors for our English Graduate Organization's potluck in 2024.
